Volunteer Park Conservatory: My Happy Place
I love conservatories! Every time I visit one I’m reminded of my favorite moment on my wedding day. My husband and I had our first look photographed in a conservatory. I can picture the dew on all the plants, the narrow walk way, the vibrant colors and large exotic leaves. I remember walking along the path to see Trevor for the first time. I was nervous as I reached out to touch his right arm from behind.
It was such a lovely moment to embrace for the first time on our wedding day in such a beautiful and intimate place. I remember thinking that I wanted to be mindful to take in every detail of that moment! We both had tears in our eyes as we took in each other and the reality of the moment. We were gettting married!! Conservatories will always bring me back to that precise moment in my life.
A couple weekends ago we made a visit to Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle and it was such a lifegiving experience. I was so excited to take my camera and photograph the moody lighting and vibrant colors. It ended up being a cloudy day so I was overjoyed to walk into an indoor jungle full of rich colors. This conservatory was much bigger than the one I had experienced with Trevor. It was composed of one main room with a tall ceiling and to smaller rooms flanked on either side. I noticed one woman had brought a book with her and was reading on a bench. What a brilliant idea! I’m planning to do that in the future! I loved walking around and creating different compositions with the scenery. I think I managed to take over 300 photos while walking around. I know I’m in love when I end up taking that many pictures. Here are a few of my favorites from the day. I love that while editing I could experiment with more moody light and attention to the details I observed. I love as a photographer my job allows me to celebrate the beauty I see and to share it with you!
